Since the new year began, New York State Police and local law enforcement agencies have been “out in full force” to curtail impaired drivers in the region as part of a statewide crackdown.
Among those arrested was Newburgh resident Anthony Burnett, 37, who was stopped on Route 32 in Newburgh on Thursday morning for a vehicle and traffic law violation. During the subsequent traffic stop, troopers determined that Burnett was impaired by alcohol and he was arrested at the scene.
Burnett was charged with a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated. Other arrests were made in Mamakting, Lloyd, Catskill and Kingston. Following arraignment, the drivers were released to sober third parties and are due back in court later this year to answer the charges.
